We use the respective Greenhouse Gas Protocol standard as well as DIN EN ISO 14064-1 and DIN EN ISO 14067 for calculating the carbon footprint of a company or product. When calculating the carbon footprint of an event, we also align with these standards.
We conduct a materiality analysis for the company. Based on this, we account for all relevant Scope 3 categories. Including Scope 3 is a prerequisite for awarding our seal at PLANT-MY-TREE®. This aligns with current legislation and our high-quality standards.
That depends on several factors, such as the type and size of the company. Based on our experience, it typically takes about one month from project initiation to seal award for smaller companies, while for larger companies it often takes around two months. On our end, we can complete the entire process within two weeks.
Official compensation is generally only possible within the regulated market—for example, if you are a distributor of fuels or energy. Otherwise, you operate in the voluntary market, which is not directly governed by law. However, there are several recommendations and standards for this. Our projects align with these recommendations and standards.
Our forest areas are PEFC certified, and our company is TÜV Rheinland certified according to DIN ISO 9001:2015. A verification of our reforestation projects according to DIN ISO 14064-2 is currently in preparation. Additionally, we offer the option to compensate using CO2 certificates under CER or Gold Standard.
They are not only taxonomy-eligible but also taxonomy-compliant! Our projects make a significant contribution to climate protection, as we do not operate short-rotation plantations, and our areas are withdrawn from forestry. We can list our trees as greenhouse gas sinks in greenhouse gas inventories, even providing specific metrics. Additionally, we plant tree species that, according to scientific research, are resilient to future climate change, such as:
- Grand Fir (Abies grandis)
- Red Oak (Quercus rubra)
- Japanese Larch (Larix kaempferi)
- Black Locust (Robinia pseudoacacia)
- Hybrid Larch: a cross between European Larch (Larix decidua) and Japanese Larch (Larix kaempferi)
- Black Walnut (Juglans nigra)
- Black Pine (Pinus nigra)
- Hybrid Walnut (Juglans intermedia)
- Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii)
We always plant biodiverse forests, with up to 32 different tree species on a single area (depending on its size). Our PEFC certification confirms that we protect the forest soil in a way that does not compromise the other environmental goals of the EU. We adhere to minimum standards for labor and human rights. Furthermore, we have applied for membership in the UN Global Compact.
